Brazil Trip - Day 1

Sorry this is so late. We have been busy since we got back from vacation nesting and getting Sara started at graduate school. Over the next few days we will post a day from our trip with pictures and video. This first day is kind of boring but that is all we've got so far so happy reading and use your imagination! :)

Day 1 – Saturday
Travel Day
So off we went on our adventure to Brazil. We parked our cars on a random street that didn’t require street cleaning and then prayed that they wouldn’t get towed away! We parked the remaining car at the airport, hopped on the shuttle and away we went to Charlotte. In Charlotte, we had our last “American” meal, or as my father would say, “Last Supper.” Burger King was delightful! I love how flying across the country is still a culture change. They actually had rocking chairs near the food court inside the airport so you could sit in a rocking chair and enjoy your meal. They also nearly kicked Sara out of the airport for requesting unsweetened iced tea. Oops….

So after eating our last supper and enjoying the rocking chairs, we went off to our gate thinking our flight was going to board in about an hour. This was my first encounter with the Brazilian way of doing things. Our flight was two hours late, eek! With no communication available to us once we arrived in Rio, Sara was a bit nervous about our ride to the apartment and whether or not he would leave us. Jeremy, ever the world traveler, reminded her that all would be fine and that the driver would probably be there for us no matter how late. Now we understand that since the plane was late, the driver being late for us was no big deal since we were late. Do you see?

Finally we boarded the plane for the longest flight ever. 9 ½ hours long to be exact. Not as long as some international flights, but with screaming babies it was way too long. But we survived and arrived in Rio the next day.
