11 weeks and counting!

Steven is requiring that we update the blog every week, so here's your update!! It's been a few weeks since we've blogged, so to catch you up to speed, we are now at 11 weeks and the baby is a lime!

Since we last wrote, the baby's arm and leg joints have begun working, the vital organs are all there (the heart started beating at 22 days). Fingers and toes aren't webbed anymore and hair follicles, tooth buds, and nail beds are forming. I have to admit, I'm a little nervous about the fact that the baby's head is the same size as it's body, but surely that will even out before delivery. It has too, right??

While the baby has been rapidly growing, we have been partying it up! Last weekend Steven threw a surprise graduation party for me on Saturday night, then on Sunday we went to the Lakers first playoff game of the 2010 playoffs. Even though we wore the free Laker t-shirts they passed out we still cheered for the Oklahoma City Thunder (we had to represent our heritage, of course).

For Steven, the best part was on our trip back home we stopped at his favorite store called Galco's Old World Grocer. We picked up about 20 different kinds of root beer and were on our way.

This has been a loooong week for me, I had a $1.3 million dollar grant due today so lots of overtime this week. Now, for the scariest new adventure of our lives: we (yes Steven and I) are going to.....wait for it.....BABYSIT! I know, it was like an out of body experience when I heard myself say yes. Steven likes to call this our "dry run" for when the baby comes. I don't know, but a 5 year old and a 3 year old (boys) don't sound the same to me as one newborn. But hopefully we will live and so will the kids. I'm sure there will be stories to follow. Oh, and just so Frank doesn't feel left out, and because I'm sure you've all missed seeing his cute little face.....here you go.....

With that said, good night all. I'm sure we'll write again soon!

Sara and Steven are having a baby...

I know, you must be thinking you’ve traveled to an alternate universe!! Sara has always said that she does NOT want to ever have kids! Well, there is proof that there is a God and his plans trump our own! We had been discussing whether or not to have kids for about a year. After much prayer and discussion, we decided to go off of birth control and just see what happens. 6 weeks later, we were pregnant. Clearly, God does not waste any unnecessary time! After recovering from the shock of seeing that little plus sign (and then seeing it again and again just to make sure), we began to let the news settle in.

We weren’t able to go to the doctor until Sara was at least 8 weeks along so they could do an ultrasound and hear the heartbeat. Needless to say, it was the loooongest 3 weeks of our lives (well maybe Sara’s, Steven is a bit more patient)! Finally the day came for our first ultrasound! Thankfully, the baby was doing great. We were even able to hear the heartbeat and get some pictures!!

The doctor said that the pregnancy looked "perfect, better than good" which we were so glad to hear. So far Sara has been feeling morning sickness pretty much everyday. Sara has always heard that morning sickness is a sign of a healthy pregnancy. At least, that’s what we told the waitress at the restaurant after Sara threw-up on the patio and ran out! That was quite an embarrassing moment, but we’re sure that’s just the beginning of more embarrassing moments to come (those of you with children probably understand that better than anyone else!). There are so many things that change once you become pregnant, it's like you become a different person. Before the pregnancy Sara was able to stay up late and live on only a few hours of sleep all while working full time and going to school full time, but now, since the pregnancy, she can't stay awake past 9:00 PM. It is clear that this child is Steven’s since he’s the resident old man at our house needing at least 10 hours of sleep a night!

Our next doctor visit isn't for a few weeks but we are so super excited because that is the 3-D ultrasound. This will also be the screening for Down’s Syndrome – which we aren’t at risk for, but are doing anyway because we want to 3-D ultrasound! Wrong, we know.

Anyway, we wanted to start a little blog to keep all of our friends and family in the loop during this strange new adventurous time! Wish us luck!
